The Department of Communication offers a variety of scholarships and awards.

The Department of Communication's 2015 -16 Award Recipients

 

Outstanding Senior

  • Selected by the Department of Communication faculty. Awarded to a senior and is based on scholarship, involvement, and service. Student must have a 3.00 GPA. There is no application for this award.

Outstanding Communication Major

  • Selected by the Department of Communication faculty. Awarded to the student who was the most outstanding Communication student for the prior year. There are no fixed GPA requirements. There is no application for this award.

Northern Appalachian Storytelling Scholarship

  • Candidates apply. Selected by the Department of Communication faculty. Awarded to a Mass Communication or Organizational Communication major who has earned a GPA of 2.7 and above. Applicants submit an original story, either fiction or non-fiction (600-750 words) and must be a positive role model. The maximum award for each scholarship is up to $1000 for the academic year. Application available.

Tillinghast Award

  • Candidates apply. Selected by the Department of Communication faculty. Awarded to a Mass Communication or Organizational Communication major who is in his/her first year at Mansfield University, who has a background in the performing arts and shows financial need. Up to $1000 available. Application available.

A. Vernon Lapps Scholarship

  • The Department of Communication faculty and a Mansfield University alum review and select the recipient. Students must have 45 credits or more, 2.5 overall GPA, with a proven interest in pursuing a career in video, television, social media or digital production. Student will submit a 5-minute (minimum) video portfolio of original television/digital video content highlighting the student's individual craft (i.e.: editing, producing, motion graphic design, on-camera talent, etc.) OR a digital portfolio detailing an original launch of an innovative social outreach in social media or work in communication technology. Application available.

Arlyne M. Garrity Scholarship

  • Selected by the Department of Communication faculty. Awarded to a student who has earned at least 32 credits and possesses a 2.8 GPA. Must be involved in department activities and organizations. Preference given to students who embody the attitude of Arlyne Garrity - positive, uplifting, and a role model for other students. There is no application for this award.

The Michael Leiboff Memorial Scholarship

  • Candidates apply. Selected by the Department of Communication faculty. Awarded to a Mass Communication or Organizational Communication major who demonstrates financial need, possesses at least a 3.0 GPA, and is at least a sophomore. Application available.
